Team Gavin secured a commanding 14-8 victory over Team Danny in the inaugural Albatross Cup at Seri Selangor Golf Club today. Featuring some of Malaysia’s top professionals, the two 12-man teams were captained by the nation’s current and former number-one golfers, Gavin Green and Danny Chia, respectively.

Entering the final day singles with a 6-4 lead from the previous day’s fourball and foursomes matches, Team Gavin needed just 5½ points from 12 matches to clinch the win. Despite a 45-minute rain delay in the morning, the players’ determination shone through as they showcased exceptional skill and unwavering passion in every match.

While the final scoreline suggested a decisive victory, the contest remained fiercely competitive until the final three matches. The decisive point was delivered by Casper Loh, who defeated Nor Heikal Hadi 3&2 in a showdown between two rising talents.

Another highlight was the match between Marcus Lim of Team Gavin and Team Danny’s captain, Chia, with nearly three decades separating their ages. The 24-year-old Lim emerged victorious 2-up after a spirited battle against the 52-year-old veteran.

“I am incredibly proud of my players and how they performed over the last two days. Every single one of them is a class act, and it’s been an honor to have them on my team,” said Green, who triumphed in his singles match against Ervin Chang 4&3.

“A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered their time and effort to make this event a success, as well as to our sponsors – Seri Selangor Golf Club, MST Golf, F&N, Go In Full, and NPG.”

Chia graciously acknowledged his opponents’ performance, stating: “We gave it our all today but couldn’t turn the tide. It’s been a fantastic event, and I want to congratulate Gavin and his players on a well-deserved win. I’m also immensely grateful to my team for their incredible effort and to Seri Selangor for providing such a superb venue.”

Both Green and Chia are luminaries of Asian golf, having achieved numerous milestones. Green made history in 2017 as the first Malaysian to win the Asian Tour Order of Merit, while Chia became the first Malaysian to make the cut at a men’s Major during the 2010 Open Championship.

Final Result: Team Gavin – 14, Team Danny – 8.
