Sport Relief 2012, is a fund raising event organized by Sport Relief in the UK with broadcast coverage by BBC One and BBC Two Television Centre. This year, it raised a massive £50,447,197 in the UK which is the highest figure ever raised with the aim of helping people living really tough lives across the UK and the world's poorest countries. Sports Direct.com Malaysia being a Sport Relief Global Partner and an ardent believer of charitable cause had helped to organize the Sport Relief 2012 Charity Fun Run in Malaysia in its HQ in MST Golf Plaza.
The fun filled event took place in Sports Direct.com Malaysia flagship store in SS13, Subang Jaya on the 24th of March 2012 from 5pm to 6.30pm. Registration of RM 20 was required to join this event and all proceeds would be channeled into Sport Relief global fund raising initiatives. In return, the participant was given a limited edition Sport Relief 2012 T-Shirt, mystery goody bag, lucky draw and special discounts in “shop till you drop” in Sports Direct.com Flagship Store in SS13 at the end of the event.
As early as 4.00pm, Sports Direct.com Flagship Store in SS13, Subang Jaya was flooded with eager runners all came wearing their Sport Relief 2012 T-Shirt. Upon registration, they were given a tag each with identification numbers. This meaningful charity fun runs with a distance of 2KM within the vicinity of the Sports Direct. Com Flagship Store had recorded participation from 50 eager runners from all walks of life and age group.
After a short briefing session at around 5.20pm which covered safety, guidelines and Sport Relief charitable cause and objectives. A group photo was taken to commemorate this special event, the run then was officiated and flagged off by Mr. Paul Gibbons, MST Sports Retail, Executive Director. It took around 20 minutes for all the participants to complete the run.
Aaron Ling Zhi Yong with the identification number 002 came out first on top of the pack by being the first runner who completed the 2KM fun run. The 13 years old lad from Taman Desa, who has been actively into Triathlon and Swimming since 2 years ago commented that the run was fun and he will certainly do it again should there be any future rendition as it is for a good cause. Aaron added that the run was a good bonding experience as well as he joined with his family and friends with much fun and laughter shared throughout the course.
At the end of the run the participants were given small Sports Direct. com goody bag with mystery gift as a token of appreciation for their support and participation. There were also 10 lucky draw prizes to be won in the form of badminton equipment, courtesy of Dunlop Slazenger (Far East) Sdn Bhd. At around 6.30pm, the event adjourned and ended in Sports Direct.com Flagship Store in SS13 in the “Shop till You Drop” session which all the runners were eyeing for. In a nutshell, all the participants were grateful to Sports Direct. Com for such a fun and meaningful event and they hoped for more to come in the near future.
